From the steel industry to Python code, the passion for maintenance and security remains the same.
The Spirit of JanusEye.free.fr
The website januseye.free.fr is a dedicated resource for the JanusEye project. Hosted on Free's "Pages Perso," it serves as a practical guide for users wishing to set up their own home surveillance system without relying on the cloud.
What you will find here: A local, simplified alternative to technical documentation that is often only available in English on GitHub, now brought back to its roots.
- Installation Guides: Step-by-step tutorials to configure the software using scripts optimized for Raspberry Pi.
- Modern Optimization: A version specifically developed for recent Linux distributions (Debian Bullseye/Bookworm).
- Open Source Culture: A self-hosted solution, subscription-free, ensuring total respect for your privacy.
Who am I?
Behind this project is a "Grandpa" (Papy) with a passion for technology. My background isn't that of an office IT worker, but one of hands-on experience:
- Industrial Maintenance: A retiree from the steel industry, I spent my career as a shift maintenance technician. Rigorous diagnostics and the search for reliable solutions are in my DNA.
- Basic Pioneer: I discovered programming in the 80s on the Sinclair ZX81. That's where I learned that with just a few lines of code, you can create extraordinary tools.
- Linux Culture: A convinced Linux user since 2002, I always prioritize Open Source. This philosophy of transparency guides all my development.

all began.
Why trust this project?
In a world saturated with subscriptions and opaque solutions, I offer a handcrafted, transparent, and secure approach:
| Open Source | Every line of my scripts can be read and verified before installation. |
| Zero Intermediaries | Your data (videos, alerts, IPs) stays with you or goes directly to your private email. |
| Volunteer Work | This project is free. My only motivation is the joy of programming and being of service. |
